Restorative Practice at Our School

21st Nov 2025

Over the past year, our staff have been working together to develop an important and exciting approach to supporting the wellbeing of all children in our school. We are delighted to let you know that we have now completed a full programme of training in Restorative Practice with Michelle Stowe of Connect RP, a leading practitioner in this field.

What is Restorative Practice?
Restorative Practice (RP) is a positive, relationship-centred approach that helps children learn to understand their feelings, build empathy, solve problems, and repair relationships when challenges arise. Instead of focusing only on rules or consequences, RP encourages open communication, respect, and responsibility. It helps children learn lifelong skills—such as listening actively, expressing themselves clearly, and working through conflict in a calm and supportive way.

Why are we using it?

  • To strengthen relationships throughout our school community

  • To create a safe, caring environment where every child feels heard

  • To support children in developing resilience, empathy, and problem-solving skills

  • To help resolve conflict fairly and respectfully

What does it look like in school?
You may hear your child talking about:

  • Check-ins at the start of the day

  • Circle time discussions

  • Restorative conversations when difficulties occur

  • Opportunities to share feelings and find solutions together

These practices help children feel connected, valued, and responsible for their own actions.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment shown by our staff over the past year, and we look forward to continuing our restorative journey as a whole-school community. Together, we can support our children in building strong relationships and developing the skills they need to thrive.
